Dr. Dovilė Sagatienė presented on Lithuania’s leadership in investigating Russian crimes in Ukraine during the webinar on Universal Jurisdiction and the Crime of Aggression

Is #Lithuania still championing accountability in investigating Russian crimes in #Ukraine, or the real struggle with this extreme task has started?

Was delighted to share my insights on that during the webinar on Universal Jurisdiction and the Crime of Aggression, organised jointly by the Center for Research on International Criminal Law of the Institute of Law Studies (Polish Academy of Sciences) together with the Center for International Criminal JusticeVrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) and the School of Governance, Law and Society at Tallinn University.

Main challenges Lithuania faced so far while implementing the principle of universal jurisdiction regarding Russian crimes in Ukraine are:
1. caused by a complex international institutional framework
2. as well as legal ones related to universal jurisdiction and
3. and the scope of crimes under investigation.
