MEMOCRACY researchers presented at the 29th International Conference of Europeanists held at the University of Iceland

MEMOCRACY principal investigators, Dr. Aleksandra Gliszczyńska-Grabias (Polish Academy of Sciences) and Dr. Uladzislau Belavusau (T.M.C. Asser Institute – University of Amsterdam), along with MEMOCRACY post-doctoral researchers Dr. Anna Wójcik (Polish Academy of Sciences) and Dr. Andrii Nekoliak (T.M.C. Asser Institute – University of Amsterdam) participated at the Twenty-Ninth International Conference of Europeanists held at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik from June 27th to 29th, 2023.

Dr. Uladzislau Belavusau chaired a panel entitled ‘The Past, Present and Future of Memory Governance: On the Temporal Traces of Remembrance Policies’. Dr. Andrii Nekoliak presented in this panel on ‘Ukrainian Memory Laws and Policies in the Context of 2022 Russian Aggression’ and Dr. Anna Wójcik discussed ‘The Court of Justice of the EU and the ECtHR as Mnemonic Actors in Reckoning with Undemocratic Past’.

Dr. Aleksandra Gliszczyńska-Grabias presented two papers entitled ‘Limiting Free Speech in the Time of Dystopian Populist Rule in Central and Eastern Europe’ and ‘Utopias and Dystopias of History and Memory in the European Legal Approaches’.
